Always a good idea.

Who needs to be proficient at esoteric mystic calligraphy when you can just play scrabble with some magical coins?

Pretty much. Industrialized magic.

yessss. technocratic and quasi-scientific magic systems are like sweet candy to me, i'm looking forward to this setting if it's got anywhere near the thought put into it that NMtG/SD did (I haven't gotten around to Space Pulp yet, so I can't comment on that).

Ditto, it's completely awesome

Fade you're so right, the patent office needs to stop letting people patent slightly superior versions of spells they didn't create, then demand 19.95 on TV for them.

It's the only logical direction for magic. The downside there being when people start claiming copyright on different spells and the like.

Copyright would be a hard claim unless you can control the means of production, or possess the means to enforce it.

They'd have a police station with little bells that would ring whenever a copyrighted spell was cast, and then a triangulation divination board to pin down the offender.
Unfortunately, they have been VERY busy lately, someone copyrighted the WANK 2K spell, a superior spell to FAP FOREVER spell.

But then it got shared on the local schools messageboard.

Surely that would fall under the fair use exception?
