Ugh... making backgrounds that contain multiple POI is outside my capabilities at the moment, I need to stop trying.

I'm looking forward to see what you have in store for the next page with the compound bow! Archery is cool.

Nice outfit. Very practical for archery... providing the weather cooperates.

Nicely drawn, I don't know if the armoured cup is really necessary, but damn does it look properly adventurer like :)

The bow is impossibly overpowered. If that string hit simple leather, it'd rip it apart.

Basically, better safe than sorry.

Not to mention the boob would be slapped somewhat fierce !

depends...looks like lots of clearance here ;)

The string angles are different with a longbow. The old tale was the ancient Amazons cut off their own left breasts for string clearance.

yes, they are, but she has a compound bow so that's what I looked up :)
compared to a regular longbow it would be a 'mighty' bow indeed :)

The "The old tale was the ancient Amazons cut off their own left breasts for string clearance." is pure BS.

Any type of amputation back then ran a very, very high risk of death. No one is going to risk a greater then 50% chance of death for no good reason.

The myth came from a Greek historian around 490BC that thought "mazon" sounded something like the Greek word for "breast" and "a" meant "without," so Amazon meant without breasts. Even back then most people didn't buy it all Greek and Roman art of Amazons show them with two breasts.

No Greek artist ever showed that.
A Greek author tried to come up with a Greek derivation for the non-Greek word “Amazon”.
He decided on A - Mazon, where “A” is the “alpha privative” meaning “without” or “lacking”,
and “mazon” means “breast”, related to “mastectomy”.
Then he invented a reason the Amazons would have only one breast.
Apparently he never actually saw a real female archer in action.
The breasts don’t get in the way like that.

Nice picture!
Is that bow doubly-recurved, or as good as?

Just a longbow, with end caps for the string. A glorified stick. Recurve bows are a different critter with a distinct "riser" handgrip section.

many release aids actually do have a trigger mechanism that opens jaws (rather than a hook) that grip a small D-ring seized to the bow string. there are a few release aids that operate by squeeze pressure, in theory they are less subject to a jerking finger pull. Many release aids are integrated into a wrist strap so that holding force is not by the fingers of the hand drawing the bow at all.

Well, magic is a thing in this comic, so maybe she can simply command the metal to unfurl ?

Yes. But impractical. That would expend energy better reserved for other tasks. For this better to take advantage of available mechanical mechanisms. Rather than expend energy for magic too quickly.

a lot people may have already seen this clip

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1o9RGnujlkI

but it does show the difference between speed and power
a compound bow with a mechanical release would be slower
but it could also be much more powerful
and that's what it's being advertised as to Tia here :)

Well, we don't know how much magical energy it would take to furl/unfurl the metal hook, for all we know, it could be as trivial as using a mana crystal as a lamp ... it's almost like View put that mana crystal lamp in there on purpose. 😁

As for the video of the woman shooting an arrow, that bow is very weak indeed, but point well made - also, she's kinda slow.
But if you want to see some nice and fast trick shooting, watch this video, the same restrictions apply of course, he's using a very weak bow to get more shots off faster.

But the video is still pretty fun to watch.
Proper Hollywood archery, done in real life!

In my experience she needs something to protect her left elbow and forearm.

I was gonna say that. Especially as that's a wire "bowstring" and already cut Tia's finger. It would slice her wrist open and she'd bleed to death in seconds!
Sheela

Sheela
Yeah, a slap-bracer would be a good idea.

That's not quite how it works.

The cutting of the wrist has a reputation as a suicide technique. But willy nilly cuts made without attention to placement, depth, slant, cant or/and direction can be much less efficient towards the job without favorable happenstance. The pertinent vessels at the wrists are smaller and a simple cross cut won't do. Those must be sliced lengthwise for increased blood flow.

Yet even when performed properly it's not as quick a bleed out as might be assumed. If a person has a change of resolve halfway through there may still be time to make it to hospital.

Even if it’s not fatal by itself, such a wound could put one hors de combat, which could wind up fatal in a fight or even on a hunt.
OTOH with such a bow she might be very far away from any threat!
But still ... an archer wants to avoid the bowstring striking the elbow or forearm. It takes both training and strength to hold and pull the bow without any part of the arm where the bowstring might hit it.

I'm not convinced a bowstring/wrist injury could inflict as much blood loss to pose such a danger.

Nevertheless, it wouldn't be fun, would be irritating and a distraction at the least. Why invite it? Just wear a wristguard.

I googled “sideways for sympathy, down for death” and got only sporadic or spurious ghits.
Where is that quote from, and what does it mean?

Great water staining effects on the panel 6 wall.

Now Tia has a good reason to get a boob plate! She knew she'd look good with one. Although with her style of all-out fighting that may be the last thing she's wearing, not that I'm complaining. ;)

Dario sounds like a Brit, "Your jail is a bit rubbish".
I like the way she meditates. I've seen hooks like that, But couldn't figure out how to make them release consistently.
If the Amazons' bows were that powerful, they might not have done the amputations on purpose... anyway, that was a myth spread by disgruntled Greeks.

You're right. It doesn't sound plausible. No call to lose a breast when a breastplate will do just fine.
