Originally, I was going to take a break from comic-ing to do a video game thing, but the video game thing was turning out a bit... sinister. So that's not in the cards any more!

Next chapter probably starts soon!

TBF video games that involve dating tend to be fairly sinister when you think about it.

I mean even best-case scenario, you're trying to get it on with something that's not even sentient.

Eh, I think it's mostly the way we bake competition into every game.

Well, most of the time people usually aim to play video games as a "game", which typically is seen as something along the lines of a competition or mental challenge. Games that are too easy tend to be more boring for that reason. It's only somewhat more recently that people have started looking at video games potential for interactive storytelling (a la telltale games and such) without so much of the challenge aspects of other games. Just human psychology yo. We hunger for competition pretty much everywhere regardless of our individual feelings on the matter.

The problem is that if the romance target is an "adversary", it gets creepy.

It'd be tricky, but a game where you have to wittily seduce your opponent over time sounds very entertaining if it were to be pulled off. Top tier banter for daaays.

On a sidenote, the dating scene these days have quite a bit of competition in it.

The romance target shouldn't be the adversary, other guys/gals should be that.
Charm your way into someone's pants, before someone else do it ?

You're still scoring points against the target.

Since page 8 indicates stats max out at 5, that would make Fireball among the stronger spells *anyone* can cast in a single round. Could a mage with a spirit of 3 or less concentrate for two rounds to cast Fireball, or would they just be unable to cast the spell? The shield spell in the village has seven circles around the slot for the battery; seems like good evidence there are also ritual spells no person is capable of casting in a single round (or at least, casting alone in a single round?)

I would think so, unless focus items exists.

The standard max is 5, but through special equipment, leveling, training, and taking stat-based character creation boosts, you can theoretically get above it. The next char we meet has a strength of 10, sort of.

But the short version is: yes, fireball is The Standard Attack.
